I have returned

Due to paychecks and bills lining up just right I was left with a little extra money this month, which I spent on a new netbook. That's right I have rejoined the internet world so expect longer and more frequent posting. But not right away. Right now I'm working on installing all the programs I use to use on a daily basis. Things like a feed reader and openoffice and Miro and tweetdeck and stuff I can't remember right now. Also I need to rebuild my bookmarks from scratch. Plus I'm going to be looking into finding some free animation programs for a project I'm working on with a coworker.

So I'm back but not really until later in the week. See you all then.

Gilly

Since I haven't done so in a while, I'm posting a pic of myself. Please excuse the wet hair I'm typing this up between showering and going to work.

My Backpack pictures

A while back I got my Girls With Slingshots buttons and pinned them to my backpack. I also promised pictures of buttons and backpack. Well here they are:

This is my backpack which I take everywhere. It's conveniant for carrying a lot of small things that don't fit in my pockets like a hair brush, headache relievers, my writing joural and a book. Also if I buy something I don't have to walk around with a bag in my hand.
On the back pocket you can see from left to right a group shot with Jamie, Hazel and McPedro, a Hazel button and a Jamie button. Hazel and Jamie are two of the heroines of Girls With Slingshots.

Here is McPedro the Irish talking cactus.

This is Tyler, a kid Hazel babysits in the comic. As for why he's saying, "Booooooooobies!" you can read his origin comic to find out but he does reappear in later strips.

This is my trusty Vault-Tec lunch box. It protects my copy of American Gods by Neil Gaiman from getting trashed.

And here is my copy of American Gods within the steel hardened tin walls of the Vault-Tec lunch box.

Thats my backpack.

And here's a special bonus picture of myself that I took today.
Umm, yes I took this in the bathroom but only because the flash on my camera stopped flashing and I didn't want to go outside.

All these photos plus two others I took of myself today can be found on my Photostream on Flickr

Going to the Movies

This weekend three movies are being released that I am excited enough about to want to see in the theater. In order of excitement: Coraline,
Fanboys and Push.

Coraline because I love Neil Gaiman's stories and the look of the film is stunning.

You know I have been interested in seeing how far 3D movies have come. I had consider seeing My Bloody Valentine but was very reluctant to due so because it is a horror movie and I'm not much of a horror movie fan. I understand Coraline is supposed to have some scary bits but I feel Henry Selick, Neil Gaiman and everyone who worked on Coraline will deliver a good story that just happens to be in 3D rather than a movie that depends on being in 3D to be good.

Fanboys because it looks like a fun geeky road trip romp.
Looking at this poster you can see it was origanaly slated for a 2007 release.  Yep I have been patiantly waiting two years for this movie.

Push I only heard about and saw the trailer a few days ago but it likes like a superhero movie but doesn't have the baggage of having fanbase it has to please.  My only concern with Push is that the characters will fail to use their abilities with a measure of common sense.

Only Coraline and Push wil be opening at my local theater. After very little thought I have purchased a ticket for the earliest showing of Coraline, to hopefully avoid a theater full of kids.

I'll be back with a review of the movie Friday night or Saturday.

Random Youtubery

Oh, dear. It's Friday and my internet column is no where to be found. So I'm doing a little bit of random Youtubery.

First up is a video entitled 'Probably the Funniest Cat Video You'll Ever See.' It is as the title suggests chocked full of cats being funny. Basically three minutes and twelve seconds of cat clips set to a rocking music score. Check it out and I dare you to not smile at least once.

Next up is another video that tickles my funny bone but from the geeky side. This vid is a spoof of a scene from the movie The Dark Knight. If you haven't seen the movie don't worry there's nothing spoilerific about it. Now the set up: the Joker has been caught by the police and is being held in an interrogation room. Batman has broken/been let into the room and is now questioning the Joker using his 'Batman voice.' Enjoy :)

That's all for now. I will try to post the column I missed this weekend.

Bye for now.

Introductions - In which I am like a smoothy

It's time I think to introduce myself.

But which self do I introduce. No, I don't have multiple personalities but I do have multiple personas.

I'm not me, except when I am me but which me am I.

I could be the geek and tell you of my comic collection and love of anime. My computers past and present could become the topic of the day. PS3s, X-Box 360s and Wiis, oh my.

I could be the bookworm and regale you with lists of books I've read multiple times. Pictures of my bookcases could wallpaper this blog and reviews of every book would fill the posts.

I could be the writer and write about writing. Everyday I could check in with the total number of words I had written that day. You could hear about how I'm stuck on this part or how the words are flying faster than I can type.

I could be the transgender woman and report on every change that my new hormoans bring. My first shopping trip would make a lovely post, don'cha think. Hormoans and clothes galore.

I could be the depressed girl and write dark poetry. My blog could languish for weeks until I came back and apologized for not posting more.

The truth is I'm all these and none of these. Like a blended drink made from fruit, milk and ice I cannot be separated, only consumed.

Tell next time I remain your hostess,

Gillian-y
